Who We Are

Nesta Carter saw the need for more dialysis options in Jamaica and worked hard on his vision to provide this lifesaving medical procedure. Mr. Carter partnered with Dr. David Edwards-Brennan to open First World Dialysis, a dialysis facility operated by a team of experts.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is chronic kidney disease?

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is a term used to describe kidney damage or reduced kidney function (regardless of the cause) that persists for more than 3 months. Sometimes, CKD leads to kidney failure or end stage renal disease (ESRD), which requires dialysis or a kidney transplant to keep you alive.

What is end stage renal disease?

End stage renal disease (ESRD) is total and permanent kidney failure. When the kidneys fail, the body retains fluid and harmful waste builds up. If you have ESRD, you will need dialysis or a kidney transplant to stay alive.

What should I eat if I have kidney disease?

If you have kidney disease, you should always consult with your doctor and dietitian in order to understand the best plan for you. However, people with kidney disease should eat healthy foods that contain antioxidants and low in sodium, potassium and phosphorus. Foods such as cauliflower, blueberries, garlic, cabbage, olive oil, red grapes, egg whites, fish, and high quality protein may be good options to incorporate into your diet.

What should I do if I am traveling?

You should ensure that you consult with your doctor and have adequate medication. First World Dialysis has a transient patient process to ensure that patients are safe and have a seamless transition whether visiting our facility or traveling from our facility.
